Plasma Leader N’s Full Name Revealed

Junichi Masuda must want Internet attention this week - he just updated the Gamefreak blog with some surprising background information about N. He finally revealed that N's full name is "Natural Harmonia Gropius." Yes, N's first name is actually Natural. And yes, laughably, his last name is Gropius (I see two similarities there, one Pokemon-related [Tropius], and one not XD.) On a serious note, and Masuda did not say this, but "Natural" is English, "Harmonia" is Latin, and "Gropius" is German, meaning N's name comes from three different languages (and he's German?). Masuda stated that the abbreviation "N" actually comes from "natural number" since N is highly intelligent in math - he is even called a "magician of mathematics," which isn't surprising considering his character design shows him wearing a Menger sponge.

As for his personality, Masuda says he is bright, emotional, has a high IQ, stands aloof from the world, keeps people at a distance, loves Pokemon, and thinks of himself as a perfect person, much of which is already explored in the games. He is apparently able to see the pasts and futures of people as well. And most surprisingly, people in the Pokemon world say that he was born from Pokemon (his parents are unknown). Could that be explored in the third version, or is it yet another cool Pokemon plot point that will be dropped and forgotten? Thanks goes to Nanimonoka for the translations!

Junichi Masuda Opens Twitter Account, the Internet Gets Confused

Junichi Masuda, director of Gamefreak, opened a Twitter account last week and has been posting on it every since. A few days ago, one user posted on Mr. Masuda's account that he wants Ruby and Sapphire remakes, to which Mr. Masuda responded, "Thanks! We've heard you loud and clear. R/S is very near and dear to me. I want to make good products. Thanks!"

Naturally, many websites interpreted his comment as meaning Gamefreak may consider creating Ruby and Sapphire remakes. Unfortunately, this interpretation is simply not the case (and thankfully some of these websites have since edited their news stories, though the rumor is now all over the Internet). Bangiras, who translated Mr. Masuda's comment above, feels his response was just out of courtesy and that nothing is being implied in his statement (she put it into her own words as, "Thanks for the comment! I worked really hard on R/S and I strive to make good products, so your feedback means a lot to me! Thank you!"). In other words, his Tweet meant nothing and said nothing other than "thank you, random person, for your comments."

Nevertheless, going by previous years, it is probable Gamefreak is working on Ruby and Sapphire remakes right now. Of course, they're not going to tell you that - they have a business plan to stick to and they would not be hinting at the possibility of the remakes through a Twitter account. They have official means of getting that sort of news out, partnerships with magazines like CoroCoro who probably have deals with Pokemon to break that sort of news first, a business plan to create hype, etc. So, for now, we have no official confirmation - or even a hint - that Ruby and Sapphire remakes are in the works. That doesn't mean they're not in the works, it just means there is no proof of their existence yet.

However, Mr. Masuda did write one interesting comment: one user asked, "Will Pokemon Gray really be released?" His response was, "I can't answer that yet." That comment, if you ask me, is what should have gotten all of the attention! Though like the R/S comment, it means nothing.

Thundurus vs. Tornadus Gift Set’ Revealed

We now have an image of the "Thundurus vs. Tornadus Gift Set," which we first reported about back in July. The featured cards in the set are all reprints of existing cards but with new artwork; Landorus, the leader of the Cloud Trio, finally gets his full art card. Looking at the product image below, it appears that these featured cards will use the starry reverse holofoil like the holos in Battle Theme Deck Victini, spare Landorus of course.

To reiterate, the set comes with two 30-card decks and the usual TCG accessories, though at this time we're not sure if the decks will also contain reprints of existing cards. The gift set will be released in Japan on November 18th for 2,970 yen. Click the thumbnail below to enlarge the image.

Shelmet Promo for Regionals

An ad on Pokemon.com has revealed that Shelmet from Noble Victories will be the stamped promo given out at fall Regionals; the card originates from Red Collection. This season, the first batch of Regionals will take place November 12th and 13th while the second batch will take place in April - all of them will be two-day events. As Regionals will now host TCG and video game challenges, the TCG portion of the tournaments will take place on Saturday while the video game challenges will take place on Sunday (along with the final matches of the TCG tournament). Players can play in both events too!I will be playing in the TCG with Reshiboar.WISH ME LUCK !

Dragon-Types to be Introduced to the TCG with ‘Dragon Selection!!’

So many new Japanese releases! On January 27th, a new BW mini-set called Dragon Selection will be released in Japan. As the booster pack below shows, it will feature Dragon-type Pokemon like Rayquaza, Druddigon, and Haxorus. Each booster box will only have 15 booster packs (as opposed to 20), with the standard five cards per pack, but the booster boxes will cost about $10 more than usual. Why less cards per box but more cost? According to preliminary product information, all of the cards in the booster packs will be holographic, meaning the entire set will be holographic as well!

At this time we do not know how many cards the set will feature, but since it's being sold in stores, it should at least be around 40 cards or so like the LEGEND era's Lost Link mini-set.

UPDATE:
A new product listing for Dragon Selection has appeared on Yahoo's official shopping website: not only does it reconfirm that all of the cards in the set will be holo, it also states that there will be "The new appearance of the Dragon-type!" There is no misinterpreting the wording: the Japanese used specifically says "Dragon-type," just like the labeling of all the other elements in the TCG, and all Dragon-type Pokemon have already appeared in the TCG, meaning the statement is not referring to Pokemon of the Dragon-type that have not been made into a card yet. In other words, the TCG is now going to have ten elements: Grass, Fire, Water, Lightning, Psychic, Fighting, Metal, Darkness, Colorless, and Dragon!!

What exciting news! The last and only new types added to the TCG were Darkness and Metal back in 1999 with Neo Genesis - that was 12 years ago, and that was simply because of their introduction to the video games. This decision is purely "just 'cuz," especially since the Dragon-type is the second least common type in the games. But maybe because the Dragon-type is so unique and distinctive, they finally decided to let it stand on its own now.

Vote to Befriend a Pokemon!

Until November 30th, Pokemon fans will be able to vote for one of the 493 pre-Unova Pokemon that they want to appear in the Dream World; if the Pokemon has a Hidden Ability, it will come with it (such as Ditto with Imposter, which means you should vote for a Pokemon that will greatly benefit from its Hidden Ability!). The winning Pokemon will be announced on December 13th and the distribution will take place later from February 1st to February 29th. Until the voting ends, the rankings will be updated every Tuesday so players can see who is winning!

This same contest was already held in Japan and Korea earlier this year in which the winners were Arceus and Rayquaza, respectively. Currently, another Dream World contest is taking place in Japan in which players can vote for one of the main series games' mascots to appear in the Dream World (Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Pikachu, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Suicune, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Reshiram, and Zekrom). The voting for that takes place from November 12th to December 25th and the winning version mascot will be distributed from February 10th to the 27th.
